Subject: Bells of Peace – WWI Commemoration
Good Morning Everyone,
On November 11, 2018, communities across Canada have been asked to mark this historical anniversary with the ringing of 100 bells. The use of bells as a celebratory announcement was common at the end of both WWI and WWII to herald that the Wars had ended.
This Sunday, will mark 100 years since the WWI Armistice. To honour this occasion, the Canadian Legion has stated its intent to have every bell ring in unison around the world from municipal buildings and churches.
In our community, Council approved the ringing of the Strathroy-Caradoc City Hall Bell, 100 times, commencing at sundown and last week you were contacted to see if you were able to participate in this memorable and solemn occasion. We would like to thank you in advance for your participation.
To confirm and ensure consistency the bells should be rung 100 distinct times commencing at 5:06 pm on Sunday November 11th.
Lest We Forget,
