Welcome to Strathroy United Church

 

We are happy to have you with us this morning. If you are new to our church please feel free to ask our Ushers any questions about our worship service and facility

.

Please note that the office will be open from 9-12 the week of October 29th to November 7th .

I appreciate the assistance of Cathy Adkin while I am

Coffee and Refreshment Times– Coffee is provided at the back of the Sanctuary before service and please join us for a time of refreshments and fellowship in the Golden Jubilee Room downstairs following the service.

Infant Nursery– We are happy to provide a Nursery with a sink, children’s table, chairs, play picnic tables, toys and an adult rocking chair. This room has audio from the church service provided. Parents, Grand Parents and visitors are asked to be responsible for themselves and their children.

Peace Candles – If you are a visitor with us this morning there are small votive candles available at the front of the sanctuary for you to take back to your home church.

Our Banner this Sunday translates to

Prayer Circle Box

The Prayer circle group have supplied Prayer Request Cards that are completely confidential. At the back of the GJR you will find a locked wooden box with a slot for cards.

Strathroy United Church’s 140th Anniversary, 2019

 

We would like to have a planning team for our 140th anniversary to be celebrated May 5, 2019.

If you wish to be part of the team please notify the office.

 

 

CONGREGATIONAL LIFE TEAM

Senior Choir Practice: Please join us on Thursday Evenings for Choir practice at 7:15 pm.

LIGHT A CANDLE                    

TO SUPPORT OUR VACANCY SEARCH TEAM

Rev. Abiel would like the congregation to light a candle in their  homes every Wednesday evening at 7 pm for about 10 minutes until a new minister is selected. This shows our Search Team we support them and with the help of the Holy Spirit to guide them they will make the best selection of a minister for our church.

       PUMPKINS VERSES THE LEAFS

Please be sure to take either a

leaf or a pumpkin from the back of the sanctuary today. This will be YOUR team for the October food drive. We want to celebrate our blessings by sharing with others. Please bring in your non-perishable food item and place it on your team’s pile – indicated by pumpkin or leaf, and then just watch it grow! Your cheerleaders (Community Life team) will keep you informed on your/our progress in the collection.  Whether it’s one can or a case, it all helps and it all counts. YES – there is a prize for the winning team!!

MEAT PIES: Beef and chicken meat pie orders are now being taken. Please call Barb MacKinnon : 519-245-1370 to place your order. They will be ready early November for pick up. Prices: $5 each or 3/$12. DEADLINE FOR ORDERS : November 4, 2018.

MEAT PIES ASSEMBLY TEAM: We need people to help assemble the meat pies. This will take place on November 5,6, 8 and 9. Please call Joan Carter 519-247-3901 to let her know you can help.

 

LAY VISITATION REQUEST

There is a need for one or two men to visit other men who are shut-in in their homes.

Many thanks to all who participated in any way to help make this year’s Roast Beef Dinner a success.

Sunday October 28th -Evaluation meeting for the dinner at 11:20am.

 

FINANCE TEAM

 

Finance Update:  as of August 31, 2018

 

Envelope Revenues       $1,503 weekly for a total of $51,092

Expenses                       $5,529 weekly for a total of $66,345

Shortfall                         $4,204 weekly

Our Deficit in the General Fund at this time is $77,295.

 

Mission and Service       $10,799 compared to $10,179 at this time in 2017 and our 2018 commitment is $20,000.

Special Project Fund     $3,133 is still needed to cover the                                      S.P.(Electronic Sign)           

Compassionate Fund:$1,799- the next grocery cards will be                 distributed in October and we will need approx. $1,000   more to provide the cards to the end of December.

Church Mission Fund     $1,474.00 (Hospitality meal)

Parlour Group:

On Monday, October 22nd at 2:00 pm the Parlour Group will join with the Strathroy United Church residents at Strathmere Lodge for a Communion service. Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow.
