Good Morning Everyone

 I hope you are all well as we start our Advent Season.

Please see below the announcements for this Sunday, December 2nd Advent I  HOPE!

 This Sunday is White Gift Sunday focussing  on children/youth toys, games, puzzles etc. If you wish to make a cash donation please have it directed to either the Salvation Army or the Women’s Rural Resource Centre and I will be sure they receive it. They in turn will issue you your receipt.

 Our Advent project goes to Dec. 20th with a list below of what our Salvation Army and WRRC are in need of this year.

If you wish to continue with groceries there is also a list of what they need for their hampers.

to Strathroy United Church

We are happy to have you with us this morning. If you are new to our church please feel free to ask our Ushers any questions about our worship service and facility.

          We congratulate Cam Brown on being the recipient of the Ontario Senior Achievement Award

for enriching the lives of young people through his volunteer work at Camp Kee Mo Kee. He spent decades as a board member and Director at the camp, donated generously to improve camp facilities and often sponsored campers’ registration fees himself.

Coffee and Refreshment Times

Coffee is provided at the back of the Sanctuary before service and please join us for a time of refreshments and fellowship in the Golden Jubilee Room downstairs following the service.


Infant Nursery– We are happy to provide a Nursery with a sink, children’s table, chairs, play picnic tables, toys and an adult rocking chair. This room has audio from the church service provided. Parents, Grand Parents and visitors are asked to be responsible for themselves and their children.                  


Peace Candles – If you are a visitor with us this morning there are small votive candles available at the front of the sanctuary for you to take back to your home church.





Rev. Abiel would like the congregation to light a candle in their homes every Wednesday evening at 7 pm for about 10 minutes until a new minister is selected. This shows our Search Team we support them and with the help of the Holy Spirit to guide them they will make the best selection of a minister for our church.

Family Prayers

This Sunday we ask you to pray This Sunday, December 2nd we give thanks and we pray for the many gifted leaders who have given and continue to give so generously of their time and talents, especially those who are guiding us through this current time of transition within the United Church.

Please keep Anne Pelkman, Barb Bett, Brian Stocco, and Evelyn Bryant in your prayers.

Prayer Circle Box

The Prayer circle group have supplied Prayer Request Cards that are completely confidential. At the back of the GJR you will find a locked wooden box with a slot for cards.



Bulletins: Due to the cost of printing the bulletins the Church Council has decided that starting in January we will be streamlining them and utilize the screens for the service.

They will still have the order of service and announcements.



If you prefer to bring in groceries the Salvation Army has given the following list of needs for their Christmas Hampers: Stuffing, pasta sauce small and large, small peanut butter, 1 & 2 L juice,  kraft dinner, boxed potatoes, canned veggies that is not corn, & sidekicks.




The  Friendship Club will be hosting the annual Christmas Potluck Luncheon to be held on Wednesday, December 5 at 1:00 p.m., in the Golden Jubilee Room.

Please bring your favourite dish to share.

  Tea and coffee will be provided.

Please bring an item for the WRRC instead of having a gift exchange.  We will deliver the items to the centre that afternoon.   Items for Moms or children, seasonal or every day, are appropriate.  Thank you.

Parlour Group:

The Parlour group will meet on Monday, December 10th at 11:45 in the Golden Jubilee Room. We will order in Swiss Chalet Festive Meals for lunch. Anyone able to attend please call Marie Robinson 519-245-1467 so we can have enough dinners ordered.

              You are invited to attend:

the “Community Christmas Carol Fest” on Sunday evening December 16 @ 7 p.m. at the Providence URC on Second Street. Please join us for

singing and refreshments. Children are welcome!

O, Come Emmanuel -Strathroy Chorale – Sun. Dec. 2ndSt. John the Evangelist Church – 54 Head ST.2:30 pm. Tickets at the door – Adult $10 Child. $5.       



If you are not using envelopes and wish to have them for 2019 please notify Dianne in the office. This is also a great time to take advantage of our PAR(Pre Authorized Payment) program , forms are available in the office and at the usher stations.        Thank you, Dianne – 519-245-0276.                               

GENERAL FUND:  This year our envelope givings have been a little lower than last year and we have had some urgent repairs needed to the building. At this time our church is in a deficit position of ($83,905). All donations to help reduce this sizeable deficit are greatly appreciated.


SPECIAL PROJECT: We thank an anonymous donor for the final payment towards our Sign. Our Special Projects fund is clear for 2018.


MISSION AND SERVICE: We have raised $12,915 towards our Mission and Service Objective of $20,000 for 2018.


          Twice a month in the winter time we offer $25.00 Food Basics Cards (4 per year per person)to those who are struggling to make ends meet. This service is offered during the months  of  Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. and March on the second and third Thursday mornings from 9-12.

          On the Fourth Thursday of the month we serve guests from our Community a Hospitality Meal. At our last meal we served 95 guests.

Through your envelope givings you have an opportunity to help both of these efforts to reach out to our community.

Church Mission Fund- supports of our Hospitality Meals.



This year for our Advent project we will be filling Advent bags with items for the Salvation Army and the Women’s Rural Resource Centre. Deadline is Dec. 20th The bags will come with labels attached with suggestions of items to put in them.

On Santa’s List are the following:

chapstick      Toothpaste and brushes   pajamas(any size)Hair Brushes and                 Combs            slippers       journals.

Toiletries – deodorant, Shampoo, lotions Underwear          socks  hats  mittens Make up  sanitary napkins/tampons


The Congregational Life Team, is requesting Poinsettia donations to assist with the decorating of the Sanctuary. They may be donated in memory of a loved one if you wish, and if this is the case could you please call Dianne at the office, by noon on Dec. 19, 2018 so the particulars can be shared in the bulletin.  We ask that you have the plants at the church on the Friday, December 21, in the am between 9 and 11 so that they are in place for that Sunday, and Christmas Eve. We also would ask that you take the plants with you following the Christmas Eve service.   If you have any questions please feel free to call the office.


Christmas Puddings still available after the service in the Golden Jubilee Room. Both Carrot and Plum.


Beef meat pies also available $5 for one or 3 for $12!



Christmas baking bargains -ff baking from the freezer – tarts, cookies, loaves etc. etc. at half price please call Marjorie at 519-245-0989 and she will help you pick them up through the week.
