Welcome to Strathroy United Church

We are happy to have you with us this morning. If you are new to our church please feel free to ask our Ushers any questions about our worship service and facility.

No soup and roll today but will be

available again on the 20th of January.

 

 

NOTE: Frosty Frolic meeting will be Sunday, Jan. 20th after service.

 

 

Needed: Communion Servers for Christmas Eve service.

Please contact Darlene Bourne or the office if you can assist.

 

 

The Christmas letter went out by email last week and hard copies are at the back of the sanctuary for those who are not on our email list.

 

 

Coffee and Refreshment Times

Coffee is provided at the back of the Sanctuary before service and please join us for a time of refreshments and fellowship in the Golden Jubilee Room downstairs following the service.

 

Infant Nursery– We are happy to provide a Nursery with a sink, children’s table, chairs, play picnic tables, toys and an adult rocking chair. This room has audio from the church service provided. Parents, Grand Parents and visitors are asked to be responsible for themselves and their children.                  

Peace Candles – If you are a visitor with us this morning there are small votive candles available at the front of the sanctuary for you to take back to your home church.

LIGHT A CANDLE

TO SUPPORT OUR VACANCY SEARCH TEAM

Rev. Abiel would like the congregation to light a candle in their homes every Wednesday evening at 7 pm for about 10 minutes until a new minister is selected. This shows our Search Team we support them and with the help of the Holy Spirit to guide them they will make the best selection of a minister for our church.

Family Prayers

This Sunday we ask you to pray the wealth of resources our Church has as a denomination, and we pray for those who give so freely of their time and talents.

Please keep Anne Pelkman, Barb Bett, Brian Stocco, and Evelyn Bryant in your prayers.

Prayer Circle Box

The Prayer circle group have supplied Prayer Request Cards that are completely confidential. At the back of the GJR you will find a locked wooden box with a slot for cards.

 

CONGREGATIONAL LIFE TEAM

Bulletins: Due to the cost of printing the bulletins the Church Council has decided that starting in January we will be streamlining them and utilize the screens for the service.They will still have the order of service and announcements.

Children’s Choir

This is an open invitation to all children who would like to sing on the 4th Sunday of advent (December 23rd). We will have a rehearsal on Sunday, December 16th immediately following service in the parlor. We will also meet on the 23rd at 9am to prepare for

the service. Please feel free to contact Andy with any questions.

MEMORIAL FLOWERS

The Congregational Life Team, is requesting Poinsettia donations to assist with the decorating of the Sanctuary. They may be donated in memory of a loved one if you wish, and if this is the case could you plea se call Dianne at the office, by noon on Dec. 19, 2018 so the particulars can be shared in the bulletin.  We ask that you have the plants at the church on the Friday, December 21, in the am between 9 and 11 so that they are in place for that Sunday, and Christmas Eve.We also would ask that you take the plants with you following the Christmas Eve service.   If you have any questions please feel free to call the office.

COMMUNITY LIFE TEAM

 

SALVATION ARMY NEEDS FOR CHRISTMAS HAMPERS

If you prefer to bring in groceries the Salvation Army has given the following list of needs for their Christmas Hampers:Stuffing, pasta sauce small and large, small peanut butter, 1 & 2 L juice,  kraft dinner, boxed potatoes, canned veggies that is not corn, & sidekicks.  By December 20th                        

 

 

ADVENT PROJECT 2018

This year for our Advent project we will be filling  Advent bags with items for the Salvation Army and the Women’s Rural Resource Centre. Deadline is Dec. 20th The bags will come with labels attached with suggestions of items to put in them.

FINANCE TEAM

 

ENVELOPES AND PAR FOR 2019 ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF THE SANCTUARY THIS MORNING.

GENERAL FUND:  This year our envelope givings have been a little lower than last year and we have had some urgent repairs needed to the building. At this time our church is in a deficit position of ($83,905). All donations to help reduce this sizeable deficit are greatly appreciated.

 

SPECIAL PROJECT: We thank an anonymous donor for the final payment towards our Sign. Our Special Projects fund is clear for 2018.

 

MISSION AND SERVICE: We have raised $12,915 towards our Mission and Service Objective of $20,000 for 2018.

We are a little behind our goal so any donations to our Mission and Service Fund would be greatly appreciated.

 

COMPASSIONATE FUND & CHURCH MISSION FUNDS:

Through your envelope givings you have an opportunity to help both of these efforts to reach out to our community.

Compassionate Fund – Supports  the Food Basic Cards

Church Mission Fund- supports of our Hospitality Meals.

 

Advent and Christmas Services

 

December 16- Blue Christmas Service: 4:30p.m.

Christmas can be a  very difficult season, especially when we are experiencing loss and grief.  On Sunday  December 16th you are welcome to join the community at Denning’s of Strathroy at 4:30 p.m. where a Community Blue Christmas Service will be officiated by the Strathroy and District Christian Ministerial Association.
